FSIS expands metals testing in Siluriformes (catfish) muscle

The FSIS Chemistry Laboratory Guidebook method “Determination of Metals by ICP-MS and ICP-OES” has been expanded to include Siluriformes (catfish) muscle. The method now analyzes for 17 different metals in Siluriformes muscle, along with tissue from other species such as beef, pork, and poultry.


The Agency intends to begin using the method after June 20, 2016. The methods are available at
