Farming is inherently a risky endeavor. Too much rain can take out an entire field of plants. Ditto too little. And, for farmers whose business is raising poultry, there's even the threat of avian flu. The latter loomed large over the past few seasons — just ask the folks at Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project, an Asheville-based nonprofit advocating for local farms.
