AgCarolina Farm Credit awards $27,000 in college scholarships

AgCarolina Farm Credit, eastern North Carolina’s largest agricultural lending cooperative, announces 27 high school and college students will be receiving scholarships totaling $27,000 during 2016.  The scholarship program is one component of the lender’s Corporate Giving Program.  


Recipients of the $1,000 At-Large Scholarship are: Collin Blalock of Wilson (son of David and Denise Blalock); Katelyn Honeycutt of Angier (daughter of Barry and JoAnne Honeycutt); Garrett Lee of Smithfield (son of Don and Laura Lee); Justin Pendleton of Elizabeth City (son of Jason and Melissa Pendleton); and Logan Tyson of Nashville (daughter of Jeffrey and Sharon Tyson).


Recipients of the $750 Community College Scholarship are: Lori Askew of Gatesville (daughter of John Askew and Deana Yonally); Anna Evans of Edenton (daughter of Jasper and Beth Evans); Kaleb Martin of Norlina (son of Randy and Donna Martin); Erin Smith of Colerain (daughter of Cameron and Amy Smith); and Taylor Stancill of Greenville (daughter of Steven and Sonya Stancill).  


Five FFA scholarships of $500 each were awarded to: Victoria Wayde Johnson of Benson (Hobbton High FFA), Margo Lilley of Columbia (Northeast Regional School of Biotechnology


and Agriscience FFA), Annie Mills of Grimesland (Southside FFA), Mary Kate Morgan of Shawboro (Currituck County High School FFA), and Hunter Christian Taylor of Mount Olive (Southern Wayne FFA).  


In addition to the above scholarships, five $2,000 scholarships to North Carolina State University for students who are currently enrolled in or will be pursuing a degree in the ag curriculum will be awarded.  The recipients are: James H. Ferebee, IV of Shawboro, Melinda T. Boyd of Pinetown, Andrew P. Spruill of Oriental, Katelyn B. Honeycutt of Angier, and Justin Spruill of Oriental.  Also, five $750 scholarships to the NCSU Ag Institute will be awarded.  Recipients of
the Ag Institute scholarships are: Nicholas A. Pope of Knightdale, Tyler W. Englebright of Oxford, Ashley D. Fisher of Whitakers, William S. Copeland of Windsor, and Justin K. Pendleton of Elizabeth City.  Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are currently enrolled in or will be pursuing a degree in the ag curriculum at North Carolina A&T State University.  Student selection for the scholarships at A&T was made by the university and the recipients are Grant Jones of Nash County and Rahbi Anderson of Craven County.
