Reynolds American Inc. ended its first 12-month reporting period a clear profit winner from its acquisition of Newport, the top-selling U.S. menthol cigarette. Reynolds reported Tuesday a 43 percent increase in adjusted net income to $828 million in the second quarter. Net sales jumped 32.9 percent to $3.19 billion.
