Tomatoes will be the talk of the party during what will be a first-time festival at the Shallotte Farmers Market. Mater Fest, an event created by the town of Shallotte, Brunswick County parks and recreation, the Brunswick County Cooperative Extension and others, aims to celebrate tomato production in Brunswick County.  On Monday, Brunswick County commissioners approved a resolution recognizing the county as a significant tomato producer in the state.
