Last Friday night, Michael Hastings, the Winston-Salem Journal’s food editor, and I hosted the annual Slice of Summer Tomato Tasting. There was a great turnout, with a long line stretching down Trade Street. Fortunately, the heavy rain and lightning held off until the very end — after most of the participants had devoured the local tomato bounty.
