The Briefcase: R.J. Reynolds faces $2.75 million Engle jury verdict

A Florida jury awarded Monday a $2.75 million payment from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. to the widow of a smoker who died from lung cancer. The jury determined Reynolds was at 55 percent fault for the illness that contributed to the death of Robert Mathis, while Mathis was at 45 percent fault. Hazel and Robert Mathis were married for 40 years before he died in 1996.
