OK, it’s not exactly a scientific study. But it is, dare we say, food for thought: Farmers in Washington state have been feeding their pigs marijuana plant waste as an experiment and the result has been increased weight gain and tasty pork, according to pro-marijuana website Green Rush Daily.

Four pigs were fed potent marijuana plant trimmings for four months, and they all gained 20 to 30 pounds more than half-dozen other pigs not fed marijuana, according to the article.

Cannabis is recreationally legal in Washington, so feeding pigs marijuana is not against the law. Increased appetite is a known side effect of ingesting the plant.

A Seattle butcher told Green Rush Daily the pot-fed pork was selling fast and not just to hippies and stoners.
