Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield and Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas released a new report on how Hillary Clinton's economic plans will benefit the economy of rural North Carolina, in line with their commitment to building an economy that works for everyone - and not just those at the top.

Governor Jim Hunt praised the plan, which cites an analysis of an independent report by a former economic advisor for John McCain, suggesting that Hillary Clinton's plan could help the North Carolina economy create 325,000 new jobs, whereas Donald Trump's economic proposals would cost North Carolina over 100,000 jobs.

The 100-Day Jobs Plan and many other aspects of Hillary Clinton's agenda for rural America would lead to growth and job creation in rural North Carolina.

“I believe that Hillary’s plan will do great things to help build the economy of North Carolina – including rural North Carolina, where I live on a farm," said Governor Jim Hunt.  "We need a real economic shot in the arm in our state, and I believe that her plan will do it for us.  Having worked hard as Governor for 16 years to build the economy up in North Carolina, I see Hillary Clinton’s plan as one that will help us tremendously.”

"Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are running to build an economy that works for all people, not just those at the top," said Congressman G.K. Butterfield. "And when they say 'all,' they mean it. Analysis based on the findings of a former economic advisory to John McCain found that Hillary's jobs plan could create more than 325,000 jobs here in North Carolina. She focuses on the fundamentals of growth that we've known here in North Carolina for a long time - her plan will invest in our small businesses, invest in our roads and bridges, combat rural poverty, and support North Carolina's farmers."

"Rural North Carolina needs real solutions with clear tangible economic benefit, specifics not rhetoric. We are long overdue." said Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas. "The Clinton plan targets investment in strengthening the foundations of economic growth in rural North Carolina: the largest job creation through infrastructure investmentsince the Eisenhower administration, expanded access for all willing to work in the classroom to quality higher education and targeted support to reinforce North Carolina's family farms."

Hillary Clinton is committed to building an economy that works for everyone in North Carolina, and to breaking down barriers for people from all walks of life.

Her plans to strengthen the economy of North Carolina's rural areas include providing rural North Carolinians with multiple pathways to a career, making the largest investment in infrastructure since Eisenhower built the interstate highway system, cutting red tape for small businesses, combating rural poverty, and supporting North Carolina's farmers.

In 2015, over 2 million North Carolinians lived in areas that have been designated as rural — approximately 22 percent of the state’s population.
