RE:  TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF MOTOR VEHICLE REGULATIONS
____________________________________________________________________________
The approach of Tropical Storm Hermine to the North Carolina coast creates an imminent threat of severe economic loss of livestock, poultry and crops ready to be harvested.  At my recommendation and pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 166A-19.70(g), the Governor has directed the Department of Public Safety to temporarily suspend weighing those vehicles used to transport livestock, poultry or crops.  The Governor has also declared that the maximum hours of service for drivers prescribed by N.C. Gen. Stat. § 20-381 should be waived for vehicles transporting feed for livestock and poultry, transporting livestock and poultry, or transporting crops that have been harvested.

Copies of Executive Order Nos. 97 and 98 are attached.  Please read both of them.  Also, please share these executive orders with members of your commodity groups.  If anyone is mistakenly stopped while trying to get crops out of the fields or while transporting livestock, they should share the executive orders with law enforcement.

If you need any assistance from our Department, please call our Agriculture Disaster Hotline
at 1-866-645-9403.
