The United States is demanding $450 million in compensation from India for failing to comply with a World Trade Organization ruling on poultry import restrictions, but India says it has met its obligations and rejected the claim, according to a media report  from New Delhi.

Indian officials at a WTO meeting in Geneva this week asked the Dispute Settlement Body to investigate its compliance before addressing the U.S. request for retaliation, the report said.

The United States in July filed a request with the WTO seeking trade sanctions against India after winning a dispute over the country’s poultry import restrictions. India placed a ban on U.S. poultry in 2007 to prevent low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI).

India says it changed its import rules last month, removing the restrictions linked to LPAI.
