More than 4,000 people have applied to work at Sanderson Farms’ hatchery and processing plant in Robeson County, N.C., as the facilities gear up for operation, the Robesonian newspaper reported.

The Lumberton, N.C., hatchery is scheduled to open in three weeks and the St. Pauls processing plant will start full production the first week of January, Sanderson’s Bob Billingsley, director of development and engineering, said this week in a presentation to the Lumberton Rotary Club, the paper reported.

The company is filling a total of 1,100 positions between the two facilities. About 300 people have been hired so far for the hatchery, and training for the processing plant is set to begin on Nov. 14, Billingsley said.
