Horse show events raise 'soring' concerns

Those concerned about the welfare of “Big Lick” show horses are unhappy about the presence of the North Carolina Championship Walking Horse Show, scheduled Thursday through Saturday at the WNC Ag Center. The issue centers on the practice of “soring” that some horse trainers use in developing the exaggerated Big Lick gait of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed.
