In Alaska, the quickening pace of erosion brought on by more severe storms, melting permafrost and diminishing sea ice is forcing coastal villagers to find higher ground. In seaside communities including Miami, Tybee Island, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, higher tides have led to what some call "sunny-day flooding," as seawater rises onto streets and pedestrian areas.
