USDA forecasts increased yields for North Carolina corn and soybeans

Corn for grain
• Yield is forecast at 141 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from
last month’s forecast of 139 bushels per acre.
• Production is forecast to total 132.5 million bushels, up 61%
from the 82.5 million bushels produced last year.
• Harvested acres are forecast at 940,000, up from the 730,000
acres harvested in 2015.


Cotton
• Yield is forecast at 908 pounds per acre, down 52 pounds
per acre from the September 1 forecast.
• Production is forecast at 520,000 bales, down 1% from last
year’s production of 527,000 bales.
• Harvested acres are expected to total 275,000 acres
compared with 355,000 acres harvested in 2015.


Peanuts
• Yield per acre is forecast at 3,800 pounds, down 100 pounds
per acre from last month’s forecast of 3,900.
• Production is forecast at 384 million pounds, up 27% from
last year’s production of 303 million pounds.
• Harvested acres are projected at 101,000 acres, up 13,000
acres from 2015.


Soybeans
• Yield is forecast to average 38 bushels per acre, up 3
bushels from the September 1 forecast.
• Production is forecast to total 63 million bushels, up 15%
from last year’s production of 55 million bushels.
• Harvested acres are projected at 1.7 million, down 3% from
last year.
