Food production linked to dramatic decline in wild animal populations

Habitat destruction caused by global food production is the driving force behind a dramatic decline in wild animal populations, according to a new report from the World Wildlife Fund. The report finds that global populations of vertebrates - mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish - declined by 58 percent between 1970 and 2012, a significant change from the last report in 2014 which saw a 52 percent overall decline.
