North Carolina October Farm Report

Cotton production is down 1% from 2015.
Peanut production is up 27% from last year.
Soybean production is up 15% from last year.
Corn for grain production is down 61% from 2015.


CHICKEN EGGS
South Atlantic Region: Broiler-Type eggs in incubators on September 1,
2016 totaled 247,146,000. The total was up 1% from the September 1, 2015
total of 244,152,000 eggs. The total number of Egg-Type eggs in incubators
on September 1, 2016 decreased 10% from 5,068,000 eggs in 2015 to
4,542,000.


SOWS FARROWING
North Carolina producers intend farrow 455,000 sows during the September
– November 2016 quarter and 455,000 sows during the December 2016 –February 2017 quarter.


PIG CROP
The State’s pig crop during the June – August 2016 period totaled 4.9 million
head, up 7% from the same period last year.
PIGS PER LITTER
The number of pigs saved per litter during the June – August 2016 quarter
averaged at 10.2, which is up from the 9.7 pigs saved during the same quarter
last year.
HOGS & PIGS
Hogs and pigs on North Carolina farms September 1, 2016 totaled 9.1
million head, up 2% from June 1 and 3% from 2016.
