Republicans retain veto-proof control of N.C. legislature

North Carolina’s Democrats failed to erode the Republicans’ veto-proof majority in the General Assembly in Tuesday’s elections. Instead of gaining seats, the Democrats lost one in the state Senate. Democrats had hoped to win the governor’s mansion to gain the veto and at the same time pick up enough seats in the state House to sustain vetoes.
