Authorities in Yadkin County, N.C., are investigating what may have caused a multiple-alarm fire over the weekend that killed an estimated 12,000 chickens, the owners of the facility told several local media outlets.

Keith Vestal, the head of the county Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department, also told the Winston-Salem Journal that all of the area’s fire crews responded to the fire, which broke out Sunday afternoon in Hamptonville, N.C. There were no reports of injuries stemming from the fire or the firefighting effort, according to local broadcast reports.

Vestal told Meatingplace in an email that he was unaware of any human injuries or deaths in connection with the fire, although he also was unable to provide an update on the status of the investigation.
