Tyson Foods is assisting local officials as they investigate a stabbing incident yesterday at the company’s Wilkesboro, N.C., plant that left one worker dead and seriously injured another.

Wilkesboro police were called to the plant late yesterday afternoon and discovered two employees suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to a local broadcast report. One of the employees later died at the hospital, the report said, adding that the three men were involved in a verbal exchange before the stabbing incident. One man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury yesterday. He is expected to be charged with first-degree murder later today.

“We’re deeply saddened by the loss of one of our team members and the injury of another in an incident at our Wilkesboro plant Monday,” a Tyson spokesperson told Meatingplace in an email. “We’re fully cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate what happened. We’re also bringing in an additional chaplain to provide support to our other team members in the aftermath of this tragedy.”
