Compost odors frustrate commissioners

Months after neighbors started complaining, odors emanating from a large compost facility in Advance continue to be a problem for some in the area, the Davie County commissioners said at their Monday meeting. Wallace Farm on Lee-Jackson Drive is designated in the composting industry as a large, type 3 facility, meaning it may accept manure, eat, separated-food wastes and agricultural waste and may receive 1,000 cubic yards or more material per quarter, according to the U.S. Composting Facility.
