The top Triad business story in a very busy and volatile 2016 — the potential for British American Tobacco Plc to completely acquire Reynolds American Inc. — is likely to keep about 2,000 local employees, elected officials and the region on edge well into the new year. On Oct. 20, British American Tobacco confirmed its $47 billion offer for the 57.8 percent of Reynolds it does not already own.
