Reynolds may face lower damages in Engle verdict

A Florida appeals court ruled Wednesday that an Engle progeny jury erred in 2013 in the amount of damages awarded against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. The damages amount — $15.3 million compensatory and $22.5 million punitive — in the Laura Grossman case is the second largest facing Reynolds in active Engle progeny lawsuits. Grossman died from lung cancer at age 38 in 1995.
