Central North Carolina strawberry crop survives sub-zero temps

It’s been right at two weeks ago that a hard freeze hit the southeast, not only one, but two nights in a row.  The area’s peach, blueberry and strawberry crops were all affected, as well as the region’s winter wheat.  Don Nicholson, Area Agronomist with North Carolina Department of Agriculture says, as far as fruit goes, strawberries came out okay: “We were three weeks ahead, maybe some folks were closer to a month ahead, there were green fruit on there."
