Local growers among few with peaches

A three-day freeze in March devastated peaches in South Carolina and Georgia this year, but the Brushy Mountains have a bountiful crop of this signature Southern fruit. Unusually warm winter weather left local peaches at least two weeks ahead of schedule this summer—and set up peaches in the Deep South for heavy damage in March. “I’ve got the most peaches I’ve had since 2012,” said orchardist Gray Faw of the Brushy Mountain community. “It’s the earliest peach crop I’ve ever seen.”
