North Carolina improves on fiscal ranking

A new study ranks North Carolina in the top 10 in terms of fiscal health, highlighted by strong revenues and lower-than average long-term liabilities.  The state’s fiscal health has improved in the past year, according to the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. North Carolina is now ranked ninth in terms of fiscal condition, improving on its 15th ranking last year, and up 12 slots from its 21st ranking in 2016. North Carolina’s revenues exceeded expenses by 12 percent, with an improving net position of $530 per capita. The state’s personal income is $426.19 billion, beating the national average of $319.33 billion.
