Pasture Management: Weeds, Fertilization, and Grazing Management Impacts on Pasture Productivity

In addition to adequate defoliation and fertilization to prevent weed infestation, there are distinct circumstances when specific weed control actions are warranted to ensure productive grasslands. Weed infestations in pastures can not only reduce the pasture’s value, but may also pose risk to livestock health. This three-part session will focus on:
1) Describing the basic steps for weed sampling, identification, and description of weed problems in pastures
2) Learning the concepts and tools for adequate selection and use of herbicides in pasture-based livestock system
3) Discussion of examples and specific cases for warm- and cool-season pastures in North Carolina.
