Currituck County officials have declared a state of emergency for the county after last week's nor'easter significantly eroded oceanfront dunes and flooded several homes and cropland. Board of Commissioners Chairman Owen Etheridge, who formally made the declaration Wednesday, said the decision was based on officials’ desire to have inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency visit the county and investigate the storm damage. “Mainly this is to ask FEMA to come in and look at our situation and see if there is some relief that could be given to our citizens that have suffered some damage,” Etheridge said. The nor’easter, which included remnants of Tropical Storm Ida, struck the region on Nov. 11 and continued over the next two days. Most of the storm’s damage was inflicted on Nov. 12-13, officials said.
