Producer prices for cattle, hogs decline as poultry prices rise

The September average hog price, at $73.40 per hundredweight, is down $9.80 from August but $2.70 higher than a year ago, according to USDA’s latest Agricultural Prices report.


The September beef cattle price of $156 per hundredweight is down $2.00 from last month but $34.00 higher than September 2013.


The September broiler price, at 66 cents per pound, is up 5 cents from August and 11 cents above a year ago.


The September turkey price, at 77.3 cents per pound, is up 1.7 cents from the previous month and up 9.4 cents from a year earlier.


Feed prices
The prices farmers received for corn averaged $3.38 per bushel in September, down 25 percent from $3.63 in August and $5.40 during September 2013.


Farmers received on average $11.20 per bushel for soybeans in September, down from $12.40 in August and $13.30 in September 2013.
