Tomoka Yamanishi and her 5-year-old son were grocery shopping in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood one Wednesday in late September. It was the dinner rush at Summit Store, a bright American-style supermarket in a residential area known as Seijo. A voice blared over the intercom.
