Bird flu outbreak spreads

Four new cases of avian influenza reported Wednesday in Iowa and Minnesota expanded an outbreak called the worst in U.S. history.


USDA reported detections in two commercial chicken flocks in Webster and Adair counties in Iowa and in two commercial turkey flocks in Renville and Brown counties in Minnesota, bringing the total number of detections to 191 since the first on Dec. 19, 2014, and the number of birds affected to 43,292,373.


A day earlier the agency posted news of a positive finding in a commercial turkey flock in Pocohantas County, Iowa, and one in a commercial chicken flock in Dixon, Neb.
