N.C. farmers to plant more soybeans, sweet potatoes and peanuts

•Corn plantings are expected to total 830,000 acres in 2015, down 1% from 2014.
•Cotton growers intend to plant 375,000 acres in 2015, down 19% from last year.
•Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 160,000 acres in 2015, down 32,000 acres from 2014.
•Burley tobacco growers expect to harvest 1,100 acres in 2015, down 300 acres from last year.
•Soybean plantings, at 1.85 million acres, are expected to increase 6% from 2014.
•Peanut growers intend to plant 82,000 acres in 2015, down 13% from the planted acreage in 2014.
•Sweet potato growers intend to plant a record 75,000 acres, 2,000 more acres than last year’s record.
•Hay producers expect to cut 727,000 acres in 2015, down 12% from 2014.
•Winter wheat plantings totaled 720,000 acres, down 13% from last year.
