County commissioners are proposing that Tyson Foods be paid back 80 percent of county property taxes the company pays each year on its Wilkesboro, N.C., cooked products plant for five years if it invests $14 million to upgrade the facility, according to a report by the Wilkes Journal Patriot.

The previously reported project would create as many as 75 jobs, in addition to the $14 million-plus investment for new equipment and facility costs.

The county hasn’t calculated just how much Tyson will be paid, but it will represent rebated real and business personal property taxes based on the current county tax rate of 67 cents per $100 of property valuation per year, the Journal Patriot reported.
