Gov. Bev Perdue Signs National Pet Week proclamation for NC
by Claire Holley on 4/29/2010

Through the efforts of the NCVMA, NC Governor Bev Perdue has signed a statewide proclamation declaring May 2-8, 2010 as National Pet Week

She joins the mayors of Statesville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham and Winston-Salem in officially recognizing the event.

This year's theme, Pets and People - Healthy Together, aims to promote the importance of exercise for people and pets. The proclamation celebrates the physical and emotional health benefits that companion animals and their owners provide each other every day.

National Pet Week was jointly founded in 1981 by the AVMA and the AVMA Auxiliary to foster responsible pet ownership, recognize the human-animal bond, and increase public awareness of veterinary medicine.
