ASPIRE (Active Student Participation Inspires Real Engagement)
Story Date: 8/15/2017

Teachers participating in the project will be trained on the ASPIRE process using materials developed by the Georgia Department of Education. They will receive information on self-determination and self-advocacy as well as strategies for teaching these critical skills to their students through the student-led IEP process. Student led IEPs are one way of helping students become better self-advocates; learning to apply the skills of self-determination, goal setting, and self-evaluation. Studies show that students who included self-determination goals in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) were more likely to graduate and earn a higher income one year after graduation.
