ASPIRE for New Special Education Teachers
Story Date: 9/9/2019

Teachers participating in the project will be trained on the ASPIRE process using materials developed by theGeorgia Department of Education. They will receive information on self-determination and self-advocacy as wellas strategies for teaching these critical skills to their students through the student-led IEP process. Student led IEPs are one way of helping students become better self-advocates; learning to apply the skills of selfdetermination, goal setting, and self-evaluation. Studies show that students who included self-determination goals in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) were more likely to graduate and earn a higher income one year after graduation.
