Bio

Joseph Floy Lovvorn is an American businessman, firefighter, and politician who has served as a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives for District 79 since 2016. Born on September 5, 1976, in Graham, Alabama, Lovvorn was raised in a rural setting by his father, a farmer, and his mother, a schoolteacher. He attended Woodland High School, where he was recognized as a Hugh O'Bryan Youth Leader, and later pursued higher education at Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Science from the College of Agriculture in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration in 2000.

Lovvorn's career began in public service as a student firefighter while attending Auburn University. After graduation, he joined the Auburn Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become a battalion chief. Alongside his firefighting career, Lovvorn ventured into business, working as a real estate broker with HomeServices of America and eventually becoming the owner and franchisee of the Two Men and a Truck moving company in Auburn and Montgomery. He also owns a trucking company and has been active in the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, serving on its board and being recognized with the Spirit of Auburn Award in 2011 for his contributions to tornado relief efforts.

Lovvorn entered politics in 2015, winning a special election to represent District 79 in the Alabama House of Representatives and assuming office in 2016. He has since been re-elected and is currently serving his third term, with his current term ending in November 2026. In the legislature, Lovvorn has held several leadership positions, including Chair of the influential Rules Committee, which determines the bills and resolutions considered on the House floor. He has also chaired the Technology and Research Committee and the Lee County Legislation Committee, and served as Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Education Committee. His committee assignments have also included the Health Committee, the Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment, and the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Finances and Budget.

Lovvorn has sponsored and supported a range of legislation focused on education, public safety, and infrastructure. Notable bills include the "Sadie Grace" bill requiring locking manhole covers on grease traps at food service establishments, a bill to provide student loan forgiveness for Alabama educators, and legislation to reimburse emergency services training expenses for volunteer public safety officials. He has also worked to secure record funding for education and pre-K programs and has advocated for reducing regulatory burdens on small businesses and family farmers.

In August 2024, Lovvorn was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the board of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, officially known as the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission. As a Space Camp alumnus, he brings both personal and professional experience to the board, which oversees the operations of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center museum and its educational affiliates.

Lovvorn is married to Jenifer Bigelow Lovvorn, a former Auburn City Schools educator, and together they have two sons, Jackson and Landon. The family attends Church of the Highlands Auburn Campus. Lovvorn remains connected to his agricultural roots, continuing to visit the family farm for relaxation and perspective.
