Bio

Senator Derek Mallow, a Democrat, was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2022. He represents Georgia's 2nd Senate District, which encompasses the following cities; Savannah, Garden City, Port Wentworth, and a portion of Thunderbolt. Before his election to the Senate, he served as the representative for House District 163, also in Chatham County, beginning in 2020. In the Senate, Sen. Mallow serves as a member of the Senate Committees on Children and Families, Economic Development and Tourism, State and Local Governmental Operations, and Transportation. He is also the Secretary for the Senate Committee on Ethics. A native of Savannah, Sen. Mallow is a graduate of Jenkins High School. He earned degrees in leadership and ministry from Asbury University and later obtained a Master of Public Administration from Savannah State University, along with a graduate certificate in nonprofit organizational leadership. He currently serves as the Executive Director and CEO of East Savannah United, a nonprofit dedicated to community revitalization.

Sen. Mallow is deeply involved in his community, including more than 15 years with the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a field director. He is a board member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he is a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, the 100 Black Men of Savannah, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Tau Beta Sigma Chapter, and First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Sen. Mallow also serves on the board of Senior Citizens Inc., the Coastal Georgia Council, and is a member of the Savannah State National Alumni Association.
