Bio

Rep. Frank Foster (R-107) is a first-term representative serving the interests of Emmet, Mackinac, Chippewa, and part of Cheboygan Counties. Foster was elected in 2010 with a decisive 63% victory, and has quickly become a dynamic voice in Michigan's House of Representatives.

As the Chair of the House Committee on Natural Resources, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation Committee, Foster is the youngest serving chair in the state's documented history. He has successfully reported dozens of bills to the House floor in his short tenure, including a new sustainable funding model for the state's award-winning Pure Michigan campaign.

Foster also serves as a member on the House Tax Policy Committee, and House Banking and Finance Committee.

After campaigning on a message of business growth and job creation, Foster has focused his policy efforts in Lansing on areas with the most positive impact for his district. He has eliminated the job-killing Michigan Business Tax, cut outdated and un-necessary regulations, and promoted vital industries for Northern Michigan such as tourism, agriculture, mining and forestry, and outdoor recreation.

Recent awards include Foster's recognition as "Legislator of the Year" for the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, "Alumnus of the Year" by Grand Valley State University's Seidman College of Business, and his selection among 20 freshman state legislators in the United States to attend GOPAC's 2011 Emerging Leader's Summit in Washington D.C.

Foster serves on the board of the Petoskey YMCA, and is an active member of the National Rifle Association, Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited, and Right to Life of Michigan.

An only child, Rep. Foster is the son of Frank and Susan Foster. His family extends throughout Emmet County and Sault Ste. Marie, and has a longstanding presence in the 107th. He and his family attend St. Francis Parish in Petoskey. A 2009 graduate, Foster received his Bachelors in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.
