BioKarl B. Allen is a senior partner at Karl B. Allen Law Firm, LLC, in Greenville. A graduate of the University of South Carolina in Criminal Justice and the University of South Carolina School of Law, Karl serves in the House of Representatives for District 25, a position he’s held since he was elected in 2000. He is also a member of the NAACP, NABCJ and Rainbow Push.As an attorney, Karl is a member of the American Bar Association, South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and Greenville County Bar and is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts. In 1992, he became licensed to practice in the 4th Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Karl is often referred to as the “lawyer that other lawyers come to watch.” He is noted for freeing a defendant from Death Row and clearing him of a life sentence. In just three civil cases, he is known for securing some of the highest jury verdicts for personal injury in the county and state. Karl has always served and continues to serve the State of South Carolina by being a member of the Medical, Military and Municipal Affairs Committee, the Education and Public Works Committee and, most recently, was selected by the Speaker of the House to serve on the Powerful Judiciary Committee. Karl was chosen by the Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Greenville and vicinity to receive the 2006 Community Service Award. In 2008, he received the NAACP Top Political Award and the South Carolina Black Lawyers Million Dollar Club Award. In addition to his receiving multiple awards and recognition in his advocacy for our children and senior citizens, Karl has been recognized for his tireless work on behalf of public education in S.C. Karl has constantly received an A+ rating from the S.C. Education Association for his stance on education. Karl continues to use his knowledge as Bus Driver of the Year in Greenville County to further work for safe buses for our children, even campaigning from a school bus on the steps of the statehouse to prove his point. “I think my colleagues got the message that I was serious,” Karl said. Karl was awarded the W.F. Gibson Freedom Fighter Award for his unshakable courage and public service in the pursuit of freedom and justice in November of 2006. The honor was given for his toe-to-toe civil rights advocacy. Karl accepted the Outstanding Politician Award from the Greenville Branch of the NAACP in June of 2011 for his outstanding service and dedication to the Greenville community. Karl was honored with the Community Service Award from the Greenville Baptist Ministers Fellowship in March of 2006. Karl has also received the Unsung Hero Award for “excellence in leadership, commitment, dedication, inherent dignity, untiring labor, and unique perspective in making a difference and being a beacon light of hope and love by creating opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all.”
