Bio

Republican Senator Steve Gooch was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2010. Senator Gooch represents the 51st District, which includes Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Pickens, and Union counties and parts of Forsyth and White counties.

Senator Gooch serves as the Deputy Whip in the Georgia State Senate and as Secretary to the Transportation Committee. Senator Gooch is also a member of the Economic Development, Government Oversight, State and Local Government Operations and State Institutions and Property Committees. He also serves as Ex-Officio on the Natural Resources and the Environment Committee. In 2011, Governor Deal appointed Senator Gooch to the MARTOC Committee.

Senator Gooch graduated from North Georgia College and State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He currently serves as the Executive Director for the Development Authority of Lumpkin County. He served as a DOT Board Member, the Lumpkin County Sole Commissioner, and as a Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners chairman, prior to being elected to the Georgia State Senate.

Senator Gooch and his wife Shannon have three children, Samuel, Seth, and Sawyer.
