The Ursuline High School graduate holds a job outside the Statehouse that young boys everywhere pretended to work when they were little- working on the "choo-choo." Rep. Hagan worked for 15 years as a locomotive engineer for CSX Transportation, Inc., before heading to state government. He continues to perform those duties with CSX today while juggling his legislative commitments.

Voters first elected Rep. Hagan in 1986 to represent the 53rd House District, which encompassed all of greater Youngstown. He stayed there for ten years before being appointed in 1997 to the Ohio Senate. Hagan served the 33rd Senate District, which included all of Mahoning and Carroll, a small portion of Stark and a portion of Tuscarawas Counties. The voters re-elected Hagan to that post in 1998 and 2002 before he returned to the Ohio House in 2006.

The Hagan family has a long tradition of serving the people of the state. When Rep. Hagan was first elected in 1986, he and his father, Robert E. Hagan, became the only father/son combination to ever serve together in the Ohio General Assembly. They simultaneously held office as State Representatives from 1986 to 1990.

Rep. Hagan currently serves on the House Commerce and Labor, Health and Aging and Transportation Committees, as well as serving as ranking member on the House Health and Aging subcommittee on Retirement and Public Pensions.

Rep. Hagan, who has 13 brothers and sisters, is married to his wife Michele. They have five children.
