Prior to being elected to the Senate Randy served in the Colorado House of Representatives for four years. He previously worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation for eleven years. Randy currently operates two ranches,one between Hot Sulpher Springs and Granby and another North of Cowdrey.

Randy has a passion for land and water rights, education reform, and healthcare solutions. He frequently met with North American Water, the Denver Water Board and works with numerous county commissioners to find solutions to the water issues facing the counties that make up Senate District 8.

Randy has been named Legislator of the Year by the Economic Development Council of Colorado, he has received the Common Sense in the Courtroom Award from the Colorado Civil Justice League and has been named Taxpayer Guardian by the Colorado Union of Taxpayers.
