Bio

Regarded as a hard-working, respected and straightforward legislator, Howard Walker served the maximum three 2-year terms as state representative for the 104th District, completing his final term in 2008. During his tenure in the Michigan House, he championed funding equity for public schools, environmental issues, renewable energy and legislation to preserve Michigan's agricultural heritage. Over the course of his six years in the House, Walker never missed a vote.

Howard began his career in the oil and gas industry before starting and owning a successful land surveying business. An avid outdoorsman, he holds a deep reverence both personally and professionally for northern Michigan's spectacular natural surroundings. Faith, family, integrity and commitment are values that Howard embraces and exemplifies.

Walker is active in the community and in his church. He has served as a member of the Traverse City Area Public Schools board of education, and his community involvement includes Involved Citizens Enterprises (ICE) and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Traverse City and the First Congregational Church.

Howard grew up in St. Ignace, where he has maintained a vacation home for many years. After graduating from Michigan Technological University with a degree in forestry, Walker has spent most of his life in northern Michigan. He currently resides in Grand Traverse County with his wife Dianne and daughter Shen
