During the 89th General Assembly, Rep. Word serves on the Public Health, Welfare And Labor committee. He is apart of the Insurance And Commerce committee. Rep. Word also serves the Arkansas Legislative Council.

During the 88th General Assembly, Rep. Word served on the Arkansas Legislative Council, where he was the chair of the Rules and Regulations Committee. He also served on the House Public Health, Labor and Welfare Committee; the House Insurance and Commerce Committee, and the House Management Committee.

For the 87th General Assembly, Rep. Word served on the House Public Transportation Committee; the House Committee for City, County and Local Affairs, and the Joint Committee for Public Retirement and Social Security Programs.

Rep. Word received a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He works as a Housing Director for the Area Agency on Aging. He and his wife, Shirley, attend New St. Hurricane Baptist Church. They have two grown daughters.
