Bio

Mike and Evan Jacobs live in Brookhaven off Harts Mill Road near Marist. They have three children- Jonah, age 7, Eli, age 5, and Samantha, age 3. Jonah and Eli attend school at Montgomery Elementary. Samantha is in preschool at Congregation B’nai Torah in Sandy Springs, where the family attends synagogue.

Mike was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2004. His committee assignments are MARTA Oversight (MARTOC), Transportation, Judiciary, Juvenile Justice, Insurance, and Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight. He is the chairman of MARTOC and chairman of one of the two subcommittees of the House Judiciary Committee. Mike also serves as an appointee of Speaker David Ralston on the Georgia Code Revision Commission.

Mike has helped to cap property taxes in Brookhaven and Sandy Springs, freeze property assessments throughout DeKalb County, eliminate the state property tax, repeal the birthday tax on motor vehicles, abolish Georgia’s death tax, and pass a constitutional amendment to cap the state income tax. Mike authored the 2012 legislation that created the City of Brookhaven. He oversaw the passage of a 2014 comprehensive revision of the state laws governing MARTA and has been pushing the agency to achieve efficiencies through privatization and other cost cutting measures.

Mike runs a solo law practice in Sandy Springs, focusing on bankruptcy and debtor-creditor law. Mike started his legal career at Alston & Bird and also has been an associate with Hall Booth Smith and Krevolin & Horst.

Mike received his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as Executive Articles Editor of the Georgia Law Review. He received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.

In 2014 and each of the past three years, James Magazine has named Mike one of the most influential members of the Georgia House of Representatives. In 2005, Mike was selected by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of Metro Atlanta’s “40 Under 40” Up and Comers.

Mike consistently receives an A+ rating from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and a conservative rating from the American Conservative Union, the leading national organization that rates state legislators on conservative issues.

Mike is a member of the DeKalb Bar Association, the Federalist Society, the Republican Jewish Coalition, the executive committee of the DeKalb County Republican Party, and the “Circle R” level of the Fulton County Republican Party.
