Bio

Representative Harden is a native of Tifton, Georgia and a graduate of Tifton High School. He is a graduate of the University Of Georgia College Of Pharmacy. During his career in pharmacy he worked in a variety of pharmacy practice sites including independent community pharmacy, chain pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and military hospital pharmacy at Fort Bragg North Carolina before purchasing two independent pharmacy practices. The last ten years of his pharmacy career were spent as Executive Director and CEO of the Georgia Pharmacy Association, a professional association with over 2000 members. In this position he also served as CEO of the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation, The Insurance Trust and Georgia Pharmaceutical Services. Following his retirement in 2006, he ran for and won a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives representing House District 147. Representative Harden has served on numerous professional boards and commissions. He was Chairman of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Alumni Advisory Council, President of the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy, and Chairman of the Pharmacy Advisory Committee to the Georgia Department of Medical Assistance. He was a member of the National Associations of Boards of Pharmacy, the Georgia Statewide Health Coordinating Committee, and the Executive Committee of the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations. As CEO of the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation, he has served as a consultant to the Georgia Department of Community Health on Pharmacy issues. Harden testified before a Congressional Committee on the implementation of the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan and worked with the Georgia Medical Care Foundation, the Georgia Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, to establish a project on quality care in the Medicare pharmacy program. He is currently a member of the American Pharmacists Association, the National Community Pharmacists Association and the Georgia Pharmacy Association. His community service includes two terms as Mayor of Sylvester; a charter member of Code 50, an organization for drug abuse prevention in Tifton; President of the Sylvester Kiwanis Club and the Second District of the Georgia Municipal Association; Chairman of the Worth County Hospital Authority, a member of the board of directors of the Worth County-Sylvester Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Municipal Association; and a member of the Worth County Board of Education. He currently serves as treasurer of the State YMCA of Georgia, a youth leadership development organization, among whose programs is the Youth Assembly which gives high school students statewide an opportunity to learn the legislative process. He is also a member of the Cordele Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Presidents Club Abraham Baldwin College. Representative Harden has been a member, Deacon and youth Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Tifton and a member, Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Director, SS Teacher and Associational Brotherhood Director at First Baptist Church Sylvester. He currently is a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Cordele. Buddy and his wife Linda have two children and five grandchildren. Daughter, Beth McIntyre is Director of the Lawrenceville Public Library of the Gwinnett County Library System. Son, Hall Harden is Senior Sales Director for Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance.
