Tonya P. Anderson has served more than 10 years in elected public service. In 2012, she was elected to serve as the First State Representative for the newly formed District 92. District 92 covers portions of Dekalb and Rockdale counties. Prior to being elected as a State Representative, Tonya served the City of Lithonia (2006-2011) as a member of the City Council and then Mayor where she successfully launched and completed several community projects to include a $1.2million federally funded 'streetscape' project as well as the construction of a new housing complex for hundreds of residents.

As State Representative, she was elected by her peers to serve as Chair of the Women's Legislative Caucus, which is a bipartisan organization that advocates for issues that affect Georgian women and families. She is a member of several national organizations to include WIG-Women in Government; WILL/WAND, NBCSL-National Black Caucus of State Legislators, NFWL-National Federation of Women Legislators where she was awarded the 2014 'Woman of Excellence' award. In addition to her role as State Representative, Tonya volunteers in many facets throughout the community as an in-school volunteer, after school programs volunteer and back to school event host. She is a member of NCNW and the NAACP. She faithfully serves the veteran community in many facets. Additionally, she serves as a youth mentor and volunteer, an advocate for women and community activist. She has served as a board member on several boards to include the Dekalb County Board of Health and the Georgia Conference of Black Mayors as well as several non-profit boards. As a House member, she currently serves on the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee, Special Rules Committee, Intragovernmental Coordination Committee and Regulated Industries Committee.

Representative Anderson holds a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management from Alabama State University as well as a Masters of Divinity from Luther Rice University. As Tonya has served in the United States Air Force Reserves for more than 21 honorable years (retired), she continues to serve several local communities and the state.

Representative Anderson is a Certified Life Coach, and Ordained Minister and co-pastors with her husband, and she proudly, yet humbly serves as the Chaplain for the GA Legislative Black Caucus.
