Bio

Since being elected in 1992, Dave Syverson has been a reformer, pushing to fix Illinois’ broken ways. Every day Dave puts his conservative values to work as he represents the people of Northern Illinois.

Dave Syverson is a leading advocate for smaller government and personal responsibility. He tirelessly works for better jobs climate, low taxes, and a return to sound fiscal government policies.

Born in Chicago, Dave was raised and educated in Rockford where he and his wife of 32 years Shirley raised their two children. Dave and Shirley are involved in many local charitable causes; one near and dear to them being the building of playgrounds in underserved areas and at local schools.

Illinois faces exceptional challenges, and Dave Syverson has the unique qualifications to address these hurdles. Dave is not a career politician, but a citizen legislator. He has spent most of his life in the private sector, giving him intimate knowledge of how Illinois’ economy works.

Dave has been widely recognized for common sense approach to improving Illinois Jobs Climate. He created the Illinois Manufacturing caucus with the goal to bring more focus on the importance of the manufacturing industry in Illinois.

In 2010 Dave was given the IMEC Manufacturing Award for his support of policies and legislation enabling small and mid-sized manufacturers to be more productive and globally competitive. Dave has also been awarded the-

In addition to his work on economic issues Dave has sponsored and passed over 100 pieces of legislation aimed at improving the quality of life for Illinois families, seniors, and those with special needs. Dave sponsored and helped pass Illinois’ historic welfare reform legislation, the children’s health insurance program, pension reform, and the Home Fraud Protection Act to name a few.

Dave currently serves in the role as Assistant Republican Leader in the Senate as well as the Republican Spokesman for the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. Dave serves on the Senate Appropriations, Public Health, and Insurance Committees, as well as the bipartisan Government Forecasting and Accountability Commission and the Governor’s Council on Health and Physical Fitness.

Dave is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rockford Area Economic Development Council, Rockford Machine Tool Association, National Federation of Independent Business, the National Association of Financial Planners, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Serves on the Board of Just BEE, and on the Board of Advisors for Reformer’s Unanimous International.
