BioDenver “Denny” Butler is a lifelong resident of South Louisville. After attending Most Blessed Sacrament Grade School he graduated from DeSales High School. Butler furthered his education by receiving a Bachelors of Science in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville. In 2005, Butler graduated from the Southern Police Institute, an internationally recognized leadership course for law enforcement, and earned 15 hours toward his Masters degree.Growing up as the youngest of seven children, Butler learned teamwork and how to negotiate at an early age. More importantly, Butler learned that you give back to your community and was serving as a teenage volunteer at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital as well as helping his Mom deliver for Meals on Wheels. His parents, Millie and Denver Butler, were very involved in their children’s school and our community. Whether it was serving as PTA President, football coach, hospital volunteer; Denny knew that his parents were leading by example and giving back. Today Butler gives back through volunteering with numerous organizations, including- Junior Achievement, South Louisville Ministries, DeSales High School, St. Nicholas Academy, Nativity School at St Boniface and the Olmsted Parks Organization. As the father of three children, Butler and his wife understand the importance of a strong faith, a good education, jobs with livable wages and staying connected with our community. As members of Southeast Christian Church, having their children attend St Nicholas Academy and Valley View Daycare, Butler is building the same faith based foundation for his children that was built for him. Butler’s connection to the community includes memberships with the following organizations; Iroquois Men’s Golf Club, Iroquois Business Association, DeSales Alumni, University of Louisville Alumni, Southern Police Institute Alumni, FOP Lodges 614 and 25. Butler’s career in law enforcement began with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and continued with the Jefferson County Police Department (JCPD). Butler patrolled the former Charlie and David Districts on the JCPD before becoming a detective and then promoted to a leadership position in 2002. As a Sergeant, Butler became a member of the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Homicide Unit and led a re-organization of the Cold Case Homicide Unit. Follow this link to the media page. Public service was a natural step for Butler to take. He is very fortunate to have the opportunity to follow in his Father’s footsteps in the public arena. Denver Butler, Sr. served as 7th Ward Alderman from 1980-1988 and 38th State Representative from 1989-2006. His sister, Marianne Butler, serves as 15th District Councilwoman on the Louisville Metro Council.
